Dr. Brown received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University prior to attending Tulane University for medical school and subsequent orthopaedic residency. He received additional sports medicine training at the Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital and Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. Upon the completion of his residency, Dr. Brown obtained fellowships in both sports medicine and shoulder/elbow reconstruction at Harvard University/Boston Children’s Hospital and Columbia University, respectively.

 

 

During his time as a fellow and later as a Tulane Sports Medicine Faculty member he was the head team physician for Loyola University Athletics (New Orleans), and Zephyrs baseball (Houston Astro’s AAA affiliate). He also served as the assistant team physician for Tulane University Athletics.  He provided sports medicine coverage for a wide variety of athletes and sporting events including; the Boston Marathon, Boston Ballet, New York Yankees, the College Baseball World Series, and several WWE “Smackdown” events and Nokia Sugar Bowls.  More recently he has been the team physician for the Southern Illinois University Football, Softball and Baseball Teams since 2005 and head team physician for Rend Lake College since 2009.

 

 

Dr. Brown has continued to be a frequent presenter at orthopaedic conferences around the country, teaching the latest techniques for shoulder replacement surgery. He has been a consultant for a variety of sports medicine companies over the years, offering his input on the design and implementation of a variety of surgical devices and techniques. In addition, he is involved in biomedical development and his work has resulted in the issuance of several patents for surgical devices and implants used in a variety of sports medicines procedures. The Q-Fix suture anchor is presently being used worldwide for the treatment of labral, rotator cuff, and a variety of additional ligament and tendon injuries.

 

 

Dr. Brown is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. In addition, he has retained his affiliation with Tulane University as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics and has authored numerous book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed journals.  He is a past reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

 

 

Dr. Brown has a particular interest in arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair, and cartilage transplantation techniques of the knee. He treats most conditions of the shoulder arthroscopically including; arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, labrum repairs, bicep repairs and complex instability reconstructions. He performs partial, total and reverse shoulder replacements. He also offers arthroscopic treatment options for both athletic and arthritic processes of the elbow. Ortho-biologics is an evolving field and Dr Brown will offer ultrasound guided injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) when indicated. In addition, he performs percutaneous subchodroplasty and uses the “TENEX” percutaneous treatment procedure for tennis elbow, patella tendonitis and Achilles tendonitis.
