Sports Medicine

The Sports Medicine Center is dedicated to treating athletes of all ages and abilities. Our multidisciplinary approach to treating sports related or sports type injuries where we engage physicians, athletic trainers and occupational and physical therapists, allows us to provide every patient with the absolute best possible treatment plan and result. Our providers are trained to perform the latest surgical techniques which allows the patient to recover faster and get back to the sport, job or activity they were previously participating in sooner.

Many of our physicians in the sports medicine center are fellowship-trained in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow and ankle.

They have also provided event coverage for: The College World Series, Boston Marathon, and the New Orleans Sugar Bowls. The Orthopaedic Institute’s Sports Medicine Center is currently the sports service for John A Logan College, Rend Lake College, Shawnee College, and the Southern Illinois Miners as well as many of the high schools in our region.

Elbow Injury | Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, and More

Elbow injuries typically result from overuse in sports that involve repetitive motions. These types of injuries can cause elbow pain and other problems in the forearm, hand and wrist. Athletes of all ages can be affected, but children and adolescents whose bones have not yet matured might be most susceptible. Common injuries that we see include lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golf elbow), medial ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries, bicep tendon injuries, and more.
