Interventional Pain Management Procedures

Injections and Nerve Blocks
A nerve block is a type of injection applied directly to the location of the nerve that is causing pain. The injection deliberately damages the nerve and interupts its ability to transmit the pain signal throughout your body and to your brain.
Injections of medications such as steroids can provide pain relief and treat inflammation and may also be used as a diagnostic tool to determine the source of the pain. Common injections include the epidural spine injection, facet join injections, and sacroiliac joint injections.
Radiofrequency Rhizotomy
Pain signals can be effectively “turned off” temporarily by applying heated electrodes to targeted nerves. It can block pain for six to twelve months, during which time the patient will typically undergo supplimental treatments such as physical therapy.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrical leads are implanted within the body to send electrical impulses directly to the spinal cord, nerves, or brain. The impulses work to block pain transmition.
